Allow me to introduce myself....

My name is Ozeal. Yes, that’s my real name. I’m a podcaster, proud gen-xer, and a digital marketing strategist for a Houston-based, creative marketing agency: REKORD.

My goal for this site is to provide early stage solopreneurs and creatives simple, practical lessons I’ve learned along my extensive, creative journey. The mission is to share my journey with you of how I create, give, and help a community of entrepreneurial-minded  individuals achieve their personal goals.

I know what it’s like spending endless hours researching, watching every webinar you come across, and suffocating yourself with information. I’ve discovered the more you consume, the less you move forward with real action.

Trust me. I’ve been there and done that…plenty of times. I’m here to help you get unstuck. I’m here to help you take your idea from start to launch. I want to encourage you to give yourself permission to say “YES, I can do this, damn it!”

If you find yourself asking these questions…

“I want to do something outside my day job, where do I begin?”

“I have an idea for a business, but don’t know where to start?”

“I need to make more money, what should I do?

“How I can effectively market my brand online?”

If you answered yes to one of the above….

Welcome home. You’re not alone. We can do this together.

My journey

Geez, where do I begin?  Well, I spent my 20’s and early 30’s chasing the urban rockstar dream. Starting bands, performing all over, and going ALL IN trying to make it in the music biz. In retrospect, I had a ton of fun and made some of the best friendships ever. Not to mention, having the opportunity to perform in front of massive crowds and enjoying the artist/audience engagement. It was nothing short of amazing. Some of the most memorable experiences I will forever cherish. Sure, I didn’t make it to the Grammys, but damn it, I got to do what I loved doing so I walked away with my head up! Hell yeah!

Fast forward to my post music life. After my last band parted ways, I knew it was time to make a change. Making music and performing is all I knew up to that point. I kept asking myself, “Where do I go from here?” I was at the crossroad of my life, and I needed to plot my next move.

During this time, I was reading a lot of books on entrepreneurship and online marketing. In 2009, I vividly recall watching two entrepreneruial shows called “Mixergy” and “Rise to the top” which changed my whole perspective on life. I remember saying to myself, “Hey, I can do that!” It didn’t take long for me to start connecting the dots between my passion for marketing, community, and business.

That was my big "A-Ha" moment

In 2012, I started an online project called Indie Loop: Your Social Loop For All Things Independent,” which focused on promoting independent local businesses and entrepreneurs. We launched an Indie Loop New York City chapter with a good friend of mine which garnered quick attention and success. Shooting over 12 webisodes and organizing a few meet-ups which was a lot of fun

In 2013, I started Connected Creatives which was a platform to help local creatives get connected with each other and build a sense of entrepreneurship within the community.  Honestly, it was a short lived project that never saw its fullest potential. It was a passionate project but with no vision. After organizing two successful events and a podcast launch, I decided to jump ship and swim up another stream. Can we say “Shiny Object Syndrome?” anybody?

In March 2016, I made a decision to commit to the process. Podcasting was my starting point so I re-launched my podcast, “No Permission Needed,” which currently is on an eighty-eight week consistent streak (I’m sure it’ll be more by the time you read this…hopefully;)

I publish a new podcast episode every Thursday on “No Permission Needed,” where I break down interviews into conversational nuggets of business advice and personal development tips. I’ve interviewed over a dozen successful entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and brand influencers from all walks of life. Podcasting has been a game changer for me, and it has allowed me to provide massive value to our listeners. I invite you to give it a listen.
